Top 10 Scifi Films To Watch In 2012

Justin January 2, 2012 1

This year will be big for scifi/fantasy movies with many big budget, big name films vying for dollars. We’ve already compiled our prediction of the top domestic grossing scifi/fantasy films of 2012.  So I’ve compiled a list of my top 10 scifi/fantasy/comic book films to watch for 2012. As an astute observer of determining successful films based on the trailers alone, which is all I can go by as I don’t know the back story to some of the films, I will list my top 10 interesting scifi/fantasy movies to watch this year. For the most part, it is based on the trailers.

They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I don’t think this rule applies to movies and their trailers. I think there’s a high correlation with good trailers being equal to good movies.  At least the trailers will let you know what to expect out of the movie. Yes, sometimes a good trailer does not equate to a good movie. But how often are we surprised by how good a movie is when the trailer is bad? Not often. So bad trailer, usually means bad movie.

So here are 10 must see scifi/fantasy films of 2012, in no particular order.

  • Batman The Dark Knight Rises – Lets hope Bane continues the tradition of scene stealing and powerful villains for Batman.
  • The Hobbit – The fact that we get another Lord of The Rings-like movie is exciting enough.
  • The Avengers – My little reservation is being able to work all of the superheros into one movie.
  • G.I. Joe Retaliation – C’mon admit it, you know this is going to be a fun film to watch.
  • John Carter – Looks like another fun film that will surely have a lot of merchandise tie-ins.
  • Underworld Awakening – Kate Beckinsale didn’t come back to the Underworld franchise to do a bad movie. She will kick ass in this film as she always does.
  • Wrath of The Titans – We’re reassured that the 3-D will be much better. Will be a fun movie to watch. Looks like all the lame jokes are gone too. Thank goodness.
  • Men In Black 3 – Will Smith is back, Men in Black is back. Another can’t miss fun movie.
  • Prometheus– Will Ridley Scott become the master of Scifi Movies again?
  • Brave – One word. Pixar.

Other intriguing prospects:

Atlas Cloud, Jack The Giant Killer, Battleship, Snow White And The Huntsman, The Amazing Spider Man
